The story
Pepe Mogt acquired recordings by local groups playing norteño music and began experimenting with their sounds alongside Ramón Amezcua. Both were involved in electronic music in Tijuana. As Fussible and Bostich, they became part of Nortec Collective, a project that joined producers and visual artists around a sound rooted in the border city.
The name Nortec joins norteño and techno. Accordion, brass and other sounds associated with northern Mexican music met electronic beats and processing. In 2008, the duo released “Tijuana Sound Machine” as the title track of an album bearing the same name.
The record was followed by Bulevar 2000 and Motel Baja. The titles refer to the city and surrounding region, while the music grew from the encounter between recordings of local musicians and electronic production. The original album edition places “Tijuana Sound Machine” as its fourth track.
