The story
The National Museum in San José

A city with no centre

A voice searches for someone in a city it describes as having no centre. In “San José”, the Costa Rican band Monte places the narrator in parks and bars, among dirt and the people he hopes to find again.

The single appeared in 2014. On the band’s recording, Adrián Poveda sings and plays guitar, Franco Valenciano plays drums and sings, and Pablo Rojas plays guitar. A writer for Costa Rica’s public distance-learning university described it as fast, energetic rock; the song itself is short enough to pass in less than two minutes.

The video directed by Adriana Ramírez offers another view: skateboarder Simón Flores moves along the capital’s streets and pavements. Monte later dedicated “Patrulla Reina para siempre” to the San José bar Acapulco.
