Jaime Roos
Montevideo songwriter born in Barrio Sur; his official site recounts the making of Mediocampo.

Jaime Roos grew up near the corner of Durazno and Convención in Montevideo’s Barrio Sur. Years later he made that intersection the title of “Durazno y Convención”, the opening song on Mediocampo in 1984.
The lyric moves through neighbourhood memories, including a small shop and streets running toward the sea. Roos wrote the song for a theatrical piece before placing it on the album. His official account of the record also identifies musical quotations from four songs on his earlier Candombe del 31.
A later review describes two parts: Roos sings the section named for Durazno over a candombe-influenced beat, while Jorge Vallejo takes the section named for Convención toward salsa. The two streets meet in the title and the two voices meet in the recording.
