The story
A rapper reaches for revenge after his brother is killed. In “Es épico”, the narrator dies too, and the story continues into an imagined afterlife. Canserbero wrote this fictional first-person account for his 2012 album Muerte, making a tale of violence and its consequences into an extended rap narrative.
Born in Caracas, Canserbero grew up in Maracay, where he became part of a network of Venezuelan rappers. Another voice from the city is Akapellah, born there in 1991. He has recalled listening to Spanish rap while growing up among his teacher mother’s books, and has spoken of the impact Canserbero and Lil Supa had on him when he was starting out.
In 2024, Akapellah released “La Sabia Escuela”, a track credited to the three artists and nominated for a Latin Grammy. Canserbero had died in 2015. The later release gives the listener another encounter with his voice alongside rappers connected to the scene he helped shape.
